Community
We love going into the community, having a display and giving information leaflets about helping hedgehogs.
It’s lovely to hear elderly folk sharing their stories of how they used to see so many as children and often now say they haven't seen them for years.
I have asked local groups like Open Newtown to consider having hedgehog highways and hedgehog houses involved in their projects.
We are asking the local council if they would consider making Newtown ‘Hedgehog Friendly’ and putting hedgehog awareness signs up to politely ask the road users to slow down for Hedgehogs.
Posters are being made to advertise the rescue and collection boxes are in several shops.
We have several hedgehog taxi drivers in all different areas that help us collect from the community.
Although we are not open to the public as we deal with nocturnal mammals and it’s a Hogspital, most are sick, injured or orphaned. We get very busy at times and during hoglet season we have to be really quiet.
We are hoping to have hedgehog experience days where a few people could come and learn all about hedgehogs, see videos from the night camera of them feeding in the garden, see where they live and what we do. To watch me cleaning out a hedgehog and examining it, at close contact. A donation to be arranged to help the hedgehogs. This can only be at certain times of the year when we are not too busy and always pre-booked.
Thank you all for your support!
